EMISSIONSPECTRA OF MATRIX-ISOLATED IV-VI COMPOUNDS

We report the emission (and absorption) spectra in the visible and near Infrared of germanium, tin and lead sulfides, selenides and tellurides in Inert gas matrices. The emission bands all display vibronic structure and in some cases, emission from three excited states is observed. With some of the compounds, the relative intensities of the emission from the several electronic states vary with the frequency of the laser line used for excitation- The role of the matrix material in the coupling of the excited electronic Levels is investigated. The emission spectra, especially in the case of lead sulfide, are compared and correlated with the available absorption data for the gas phase.
