FUNDAMENTAL FREQUENCIES AND INTENSITIES OF DISORDERED ORGANIC SOLIDS: POLYMERS

To further the understanding of the dynamics of impure or disordered lattices, the vibrational density of states g($\omega$) can now be calculated in a simple way by numerical methods. Comparison with the experimental spectra would become more reliable if g($\omega$) could be weighted by the transition moment. A class of compounds which could benefit from such analysis is that of organic polymers. The various aspects of the problem and a few examples recently studied will be presented.
