dc.description.abstractMercury $(6^{3}P_{0})$ metas tables, produced by the irradiation of $Hg(6^{1}S_{0})$ with 2537 \AA light in the presence of $N_{2}$, were shown to sensitize the fluorescence of diatomic free radicals (OH, CN, NH, HgH, HgCl). The ground state radicals were produced either in situ by the $Hg(6^{3}P_{0})$ photosensitized decomposition of the parent molecule or externally by a microwave discharge. The chemical applications of the method and the energy transfer process will be discussed.en_US
