Abstract

The $2\nu_{3}$ band of $NO_{2}$ has been recorded with resolution of $0.030 cm^{-1}$. Like other B type overtone bands this band is quite weak and has rather curious internal intensity anomalies which as yet remain unexplained. The most striking of these anomalies is the observation of strong $^{R}R_{K}$ and $^{P}R_{K}$ branch serics while $^{P}P_{K}$ and $^{R}P_{K}$ branches appear to be completely missing. Spin doubling in this perpendicular band is particularly striking and has been well accounted for. Ground and upper state rotational constants have been obtained.
