dc.description.abstractThe vibrational spectra and vibrational modes in ordered diatomic chains containing defects are studied numerically through the use of Sturm's Theorem and the method of inverse iteration. The effects of force constant changes in the neighborhood of a mass defect, and the interaction of defect pairs on the normal modes and frequency spectrum of the chain are considered primarily.en_US
