MAGNETIC CIRCULAR DICHROISM STUDIES OF SYMMETRICAL ORGANIC MOLECULES.

Magnetic circular dichroism (MCD) studies will be reported on a series of symmetrical organic compounds including benzene, coronene, triphenylene, tropylium cation and triphenyl cyclopropyl cation. Qualitative features of the MCD will be used to clarify spectral assignments, and magnetic moments of excited states extracted from quantitative fits of the data will be used to test various quantum mechanical descriptions of these molecules.
