IMPROVEMENT OF RESOLUTION IN RAMAN SPECTRA OF LIQUIDS AND SOLIDS BY He-Ne-LASER EXCITATION

A photoelectrically recording Raman spectrometer with a 60 m W He-Ne laser as light source will be described. It is used for the registration of Raman spectra of crystal powders, including colored substances, liquids and solutions. The resolution of the spectra is superior to that obtained previously with mercury excitation. Examples will be given for azobenzene pellets, carbon tetrachloride and carbon disulfide. In the latter case it is now possible to recalculate the intensity ratio of fundamental and overtone from the intensities of the Fermi-resonance components.
