A number of the most recent advances in far infrared spectroscopy have been incorporated in a new instrument developed and manufactured by Block Engineering, Inc. The highly sensitive interferometer is combined with a cryogenically cooled detector and a special signal amplifying computer in an instrument particularly suited to the measurement of weak sources in the far infrared region. Light pipe plumbing is also used to greatly facilitate the handling of samples within a vacuum. The application of these techniques to molecular spectroscopy will be explored and spectra from a number of actual experiments will be shown.
