dc.description.abstractSome rather simple calculations have been carried out on the energies of the states of the molecules $CH_{2}$ and $CH_{3}$ which result from the excitation of an electron into a 3d Rydberg orbital. The results will be compared with the experimental observations of Rydberg series in these molecules and some difficulties which arise when the Rydberg orbital is made orthogonal to the core orbitals will be discussed.en_US
