RYDBERG STATES OF $B_{2}$ BY RESONANCE ENHANCED MULTIPHOTON IONIZAT1ON SPECTROSCOPY

Electronic transitions, from the $^{3}\Sigma^\cdot_{g}$ ground state to Rydberg stales have been observed in the 280 to 380 nm region, corresponding to a two-photon energy region of 53000 to $72000 cm^{-1}$. The $B_{2}$ was produced by the reaction of diborane $(B_{2}H_{6})$ with atomic fluorine or chlorine in a flow reactor. The $B_{2}$ was multiphoton ionized and the ions mass selected. Spectra were obtained for the $^{11}B^{11}B$ and $^{11}B^{10}B$ isotopomers.
