A new adaptation of a Wien filter (ExB field) allows photofragment detection which is mass specific with respect to both the fragment and parent ion. It is being employed in photofragmentation studies of small cluster ions. The technique uses a simple ion optical system and is potentially very sensitive. The first new system we intend to study involves hydride ammonia complexes.
