Using a laser vaporization/photolysis technique, we have prepared metal monomethylcyclopentadienides $CaCH_{3}C_{5}H_{4}$, $ZnCH_{3}C_{3}H_{4}$, and $CdCH_{3}C_{5}H_{4}$, in a supersonic jet expansion and have recorded their electronic specta using laser-induced fluorescence spectroscopy. A vibrational analysis of the first few low-lying electronic states of these organometallic molecules will be presented. This study represents the first gas-phase synthesis and spectroscopic observation of these half-sandwich free radicals.""
