dc.description.abstractThe discharge emission spectrum of CrO has been investigated with high resolution Fourier transform spectroscopy in the region 6000 -- $12000 cm^{-1}$. Complicated groups of bands occur in the region 7000--10000 $cm^{-1}$, of which one, near $8000 cm^{-1}$, has been identified as the (0,0) band of a new $^{5}\Sigma - X^{5}\Pi_{r}$ transition of CrO. The perpendicular polarization of this transition permits a direct determination of the A-doubling parameters and the spin-orbit coupling constants of the ground state, which was not possible form the analysis of the $^{5}\Pi-^{5}\Pi$ transitions in the visible $region.^{1}$ $^{1}$W.
