dc.description.abstractCalculations are presented to establish that the bonding in $Sc_{2}$ is primarily of the van der Waals type and has a strength of 3-5 kcals/mole in severe disagreement with the mass spectrometric value of $26 \pm 5$ kcals/mole. It is shown, however, that a reinterpretation of the mass-spectrometric data is possible in agreement with the calculated bond energy and bond length. Calculations are also presented for the systems $Ti_{2}$ and $V_{2}$ and are compared with available experimental data.en_US
