POLARIZED LUMINESCENCE OF CRYSTALLINE $Cs_{2}NaYCl_{6}:Pr^{3+}$
Publisher:
Ohio State UniversityAbstract:
Magnetic field induced circularly polarized luminescence (MCPL) and total luminescence (TL) spectra are reported for the cubic crystal system, $Cs_{2}NaYCl_{6}:Pr^{3+}(25%)$, over the temperature range 4.2-298 K. In this system, the $Pr^{3+}$ ions are located at sites of exact $O_{h}$ symmetry and are coordinated directly to six $Cl^{-}$ ions. The spectra are interpreted in terms of a crystal field model for the f-electron energy levels and an intensity model which includes explicit calculations of both magnetic dipole strengths and vibronically induced electric dipole strengths. The intensity model incorporates ligand polarization effects as well as point charge crystal field effects.
