Phys. 32, 738 (1960). en_US dc.description Author Institution: en_US dc.description.abstract Recent Fourier transform spectroscopic work on the $B\leftarrow X$ fluorescence spectrum of $I_{2}$ has yielded greatly improved constants for high $v^{\prime\prime}$ levels of the ground state, $X^{1}\Sigma^{+}_{g} -^{1}$ For $v^{\prime\prime} \geq 40$ the new results differ from the previously accepted $values^{2}$ by more than the combined uncerntianities. The previous values for this region were based solely on data recorded by $Verma^{3}$ in a study of the UV fluorescence system $D^{1}\Sigma^{+} u \rightarrow$X. To resolve the differences we have reexamined both the spectrum itself and the methods used to treat the data. The results of this reanalysis are in complete agreement with the Fourier transform work on the X state.
