Samples of $CH_{2}F_{2}, ^{13}CH_{2}F_{2}$, and $CD_{2}F_{2}$ at high dilution in argon were deposited at $15^{\circ}\, K$ and similtaneously photoionized by argon resonance radiation from a microwave discharge, and the products studied by infrared spectroscopy. Several new absorptions were observed which have been assigned to the parent cation $CH_{2}F_{2}{^{+}}$ and the daughter ton $CHF_{2}{^{+}}$. These matrix samples were photolyzed with a high-pressure mercury are using various cut-off filters; the parent cation was destroyed by 420-1000 nm radiation, while the daughter cation absorption was only slightly reduced by full mercury are irradiation. The photochemistry of these ions, and their probable structure and bonding will be discussed.
