MULTIPHOTON SPECTROSCOPY OF POTASSIUM

An apparatus for multiphoton spectroscopy of atoms and molecules has been developed. The technique features the use of a space charge limited ionization detector to obtain high sensitivity to atoms or molecules excited by high intensity laser light. The use of a two-chamber, dual temperature oven surrounding the detector allows atomic and molecular spectral features to be studied separately by varying the oven temperatures. Experiments on potassium will be described.
