 Title: VIBRATIONAL ANALYSIS OF THE SmO RED BANDS Creators: Robert, Dickson C.; Zare, R. N. Issue Date: 1976 Publisher: Ohio State University Abstract: Studies are mode of the visible chemiluminescence resulting from the reaction of Sm with $O_{3}$, $N_{2}O$, $NO_{2}$, $CO_{2}$ and $SO_{2}$ at pressures of a few Torr of argon. A vibrational analysis by a least squares fit to 45 band-heads yields the following spectroscopic constants:$$T_{e} =15\ \ 458.1 \pm 38,9 \mbox{ cm}^{-1}$$ $$\begin{array}{ll} \begin{array}{r@{ }c@{ }l} \omega_{e}^{\prime\prime} &=& 892.1 \pm 7.8 \mbox{ cm}^{-1}\\ \omega_{e}x_{e}^{\prime\prime} &=& 3.43 \pm 0.42 \mbox{ cm}^{-1}\\ \omega_{e}y_{e}^{\prime\prime} &=& 0.117 \pm 0.0021 \mbox{ cm}^{-1} \end{array} &\begin{array}{r@{ }c@{ }l} \omega_{e}^{\prime} &=& 830.2 \pm 6.1 \mbox{ cm}^{-1}\\ \omega_{e}x_{e}^{\prime} &=& 1.86 \pm 0.25 \mbox{ cm}^{-1}\\ \omega_{e}y_{e}^{\prime} &=& 0.0576 \pm 0.0009 \mbox{ cm}^{-1} \end{array} \end{array}$$ Polarization experiments using laser-induced fluorescence in a beam-gas arrangement are underway to determine whether the emission results from a $^{7}\Pi-^{7}\Sigma$ or a $^{7}\Sigma-^{7}\Sigma$ transition.
