Title: THE ABSORPTION SPECTRUM OF VAPORIZED CuO: A REASSESSMENT OF THE ORANGE-RED SYSTEM Creators: Byler, D. Michael; Kay, Jack G. Issue Date: 1975 Publisher: Ohio State University Abstract: The vapor phase absorption spectrum of CuO (produced by flash heating powdered $Cu_{2}$O) has been photographed at high resolution ($\sim$ 0.645 \AA/mm dispersion) between 6000 and 6200 {\AA}. The measurements for the observed rotational lines agree well ($\leq$ $0.04 cm^{-1}$ deviation) with those presently in the $literature.^{1}$ Nevertheless, an improved least squares fit to a Fortrat parabola (the rms deviation is reduced from 0.200 to $0.018 cm^{-1}$) is obtained if lines previously assigned to the observed band with a head at 6161.9 {\AA} (16 224 $cm^{-1}$) are assumed to form, instead, the band whose head appears at 6162.8 {\AA} ($16.222 cm^{-1}$).
