Abstract: Atomic lines have been found which pump single rotational levels in the first four vibrational levels of the NO $A^{2}\\Sigma^{+}$ state. The fluoresence intensity is greatly increased by using kilogauss magnetic fields to shift one Zeeman sublevel into exact coincidence. Electronic quenching and vibrational relaxation rates have been measured. This work suggests that the very high rate of vibrational relaxation of excited NO by ground state NO (approximately 1/10 kinetic) is due to exchange of the electronic excitation.
