Abstract

The rotational structure in the HF dimer band of $3968 cm^{-1}$ has been resolved sufficiently to permit a measurement of the moment of inertia. An intensity alternation indicating a symmetric molecule has been observed. Although the band origin cannot be determined uniquely, a reasonable assignment with the strong even levels gives B^{\prime\prime} = $0.138 cm^{-1}$ and B^{\prime} – B^{\prime\prime} = + $0.0033 cm^{-1}$. There appears to be a band head in the P-branch. Assuming a linear structure with an HF bond length of 0.92 \AA, the F-F bond length is determined to be 3.4 \AA.
