Title: MILLIMETER WAVE SPECTRA AND CENTRIFUGAL STRETCHING CONSTANTS OF THE METHYL $HALIDES^{*}$ Creators: Orville-Thomas, W. J.; Cox, J. T.; Gordy, Walter Issue Date: 1954 Abstract: The extension of the workable millimeter wave region1 has made possible measurements of high J transitions in the methyl halides, where centrifugal distortion displacements of rotational lines amount to many megacycles. High J transitions of these substances have been measured for a more accurate evaluation of the distortion constants. The new $D_{J}$ value for $CH_{3}Cl^{35}, 18.1 \pm 0.5$ Kc, is in good agreement with the value 18.4 Mc, theoretically predicted by Chang and $Dennison.^{2}$ Earlier $measurements^{3}$ on lower J transitions gave $D_{JJ} = 26.4$ Kc, while recent infrared measurements gave an estimated $D_{JJ} = 24 Kc.^{4}$ URI: http://hdl.handle.net/1811/7268 Other Identifiers: 1954-H-6
