Abstract: This thesis presents geochemical evidence to support the metal concentrations of Ti, Cr, Mn, Fe, Ni, Cu, and Zn found in the "Berea Shale" of the First Berea Formation. The x-ray fluorescence and x-ray diffraction equipment were used to sample the "Berea Shale" for its relative abundances of metals and clays. The data collected from the "Berea Shale" were then compared to similar data from core OHO1 of the Ohio Shale, which was used as a standard. This data was then plotted on graphs of concentration versus concentration, and concentration versus depth, to determine the similarities and differences between these two shales.
