The Ottoman general Hurşid Ahmet Pasha ordered Ćele kula built immediately after the Čegar Hill battle between Turkish army units and a detachment of freedom fighters led by Stevan Sinđelić (May 31, 1809) during the First Serbian Uprising (1803-1813).
