Title: BAND MOMENTS ANALYSIS OF THE MAGNETIC CIRCULAR DICHROISM SPECTRA OF MATRIX-ISOLATED CU AND AG ATOMS Creators: Zeringue, K. J.; Shakhsemampour, Jalal; Rivoal, Jean-Claude; Vala, Martin Issue Date: 1982 Publisher: Ohio State University Abstract: The electronic absorption and magnetic circular dichroism of the $^{2}P\leftarrow^{2}S$ transition of Cu and Ag have been observed in Ar, Kr, and Xe matrices between $12 and 40^{\circ} K$. Application of a moment analysis yields spin orbit splittings and contributions to the bandwidth from cubic and noncubic lattice modes. The triplet structure of this transition in matrices can be understood in terms of simultaneous spin-orbit and Jahn-Teller interactions. Trends in spin-orbit splittings as a function of matrix gas as well as peak position dependence upon temperature are also explained through such as model. Observed spin-orbit constants are in good agreement with values which can be predicted by spin-orbit reduction factor from metal-matrix orbital overlaps.
