Abstract: A total of 23 water samples from the Scioto River and its tributaries has been analyzed for total strontium concentrations and strontium-isotopic compositions in order to investigate the nature of strontium in surface waters of the Scioto River drainage basin, Ohio. Total Sr concentrations were quite variable and, in the northern portion of the basin, they were unusually high compared to most North American rivers, probably due to weathering of celestite in the Silurian carbonate bedrock and overlying glacial till.
