Abstract: The IR spectrum of a transient species HBO was observed in the gas phase using a discharge modulation method. The HBO molecule is formed in an ac discharge plasma of a $B_{2}H_{6}/O_{2}$ or $B_{2}H_{6}/NO$ mixture. The $\nu_{3}$ band origin and the rotational constants of $H^{11}BO$ were determined to be $\nu_{0}=1825.5610 cm^{-1}, B_{0}=1.30839 cm^{-1}$, and $B3=1.29973 cm^{-1}$. The microwave spectrum of HBO was subsequently observed using the reaction of diborane with oxygen induced by dc discharge. The rotational, centrifugal distortion, and nuclear quadrupole coupling constants were determined for the $H^{11}BO$ and $H^{10}BO$ species. The rotational transitions in the excited vibrational states, $\nu_{1}, \nu_{2}, 2\nu_{2}$ and $\nu_{3}$, were also observed for $H^{11}BO$ and $H^{10}BO$. From the equilibrium rotational constants thus obtained, the molecular structure was calculated as $r_{e}(H-B) = 1.1681 (10) {\AA}$ and $r_{e}(B-O) = 1.2004 (3) {\AA}$ with estimated uncertainties in parentheses. The microwave spectra of $D^{11}BO, D^{10}BO, H^{11}B^{18}O$, and $H^{10}B^{18}O$ were also observed. The rotational transitions in the $\nu_{1}$ excited state of DBO were not observed at expected frequencies, suggesting that $\nu_{1}$ was perturbed by a strong Coriolis interaction $\nu_{2} +\nu_{3}$.
