Issue Date: 1986 Publisher: Ohio State University Abstract: The gas-phase reactions of molecular fluorine with organosulfur compounds yield rich chemiluminescence spectra. We have surveyed the chemiluminescene in the wavelength region 400 - 900 nm and in the pressure range $0.2 - 5.0$ Torr from the reactions of $F_{2}$ with a series of simple organosulfur compounds. Spectral features belonging to emission from vibrationally excited HF, and electronically excited $CH_{2}S$ and HCF have been unambiguously identified. In addition, a banded spectrum, that weakly underlies the spectra obtained in the reactions of $F_{2}$ with nearly all the organosulfur species, is observed distinctly in the reaction of $F_{2}$ with $CS_{2}$. This feature has not yet been assigned, but $CS_{2}$ (a) and FCS(A) are the most probable candidates for the emitter. The general characteristics of these spectra and the chemical conditions under which they are observed will be discussed.
