Abstract: The electronic spectra of several alkyl bromides in the spectral region 2500 to 1200 {\AA} will be presented. The size of the alkyl group is varied with corresponding changes in the higher energy absorptions. The alkyl groups discussed include methyl, ethyl, propyl, butyl and pentyl as well as several molecular systems where the site of bromide substitution is varied. Assignments of the absorption bands will be given in terms of Rydberg series and intravalency transitions. Certain of the smaller alkyl bromides’ absorption spectra contain vibrational structure which will also be considered. This spectral data will be compared to other alkyl halides previously reported.
