Title: $O_{2}$ ($a_{1}\Delta_{g}$) ABSORPTION BANDS IN THE VACUUM ULTRAVIOLET Creators: Katayama, D. H.; Huffman, R. E.; Tanaka, Y. Issue Date: 1974 Publisher: Ohio State University Abstract: The absorption spectrum of $0_{2}^{*}$, excited by a microwave discharge, has been photographed in second order of the helium continuum with a 6.65 m vacuum spectrograph. The band progression in the 835--880 {\AA} region which had been reported earlier but were not classified, has been analyzed From the rotational analysis, this progression was determined to be long to $a^{1}\Phi_{u} - a^{1}\Delta_{g}$ transition. The vibrationa1 quantum numbers were assigned by an isotope shift analysis with respect to $^{18}O_{2}$, and were found to be identical to the preliminary, running number” assignments given $previously.^{1}$ The molecular constants obtained for the $^{1}\Phi_{u}$ state were $B_{e} = 1,116$ $cm^{-1}$, $\alpha_{e} = 0.O14 cm^{-1}$, $w_{e}$= $1070.5 cm^{-1}$ and $w_{e}x_{e} = 8.3 cm^{-1}$.
