Abstract: The microwave spectrum of t-butyl mercaptan has been analyzed, and has yielded a barrier to internal rotation around the CS bond of 1742 cal/mole. The magnitudes and relative signs of the two-dipole moment components were determined from analysis of the Stark effect. The theory and computer programs which have been used for the internal rotation and Stark effect calculations will be described. The status of work in progress on the related molecule t-butyl alcohol, which has a very unusual microwave spectrum due to its low reduced barrier and the fact that it is nearly a spherical top, will also be discussed.
