Abstract: The structure of the C-O stretching band in the Raman spectrum of $CH_{3}OH$ is sensitive to environment and associations. At lower concentrations of $CH_{3}OH$ (5 mole \% ) in $CCI_{4}, CS_{2}$, and $CHCI_{3}$, the band assumes a structure best understood in terms of an open dimer. At similar concentrations in water and aqueous $CaCI_{2}$ the band structure is that expected for a perturbed monomer.
