Title: STRUCTURE OF THE PHONON SIDEBANDS IN THE $T_{1} \rightarrow S_{0}$ TRANSITION OF NAPHTHALENE IN p-DIBROMOBENZENE, AND THE $\alpha$ AND $\gamma$ PHASES OF p-DICHLOROBENZENE Creators: Colson, S. D.; Gash, Bruce W. Issue Date: 1973 Publisher: Ohio State University Abstract: The phonon sidebands associated with the phosphorescence of naphthalene in p-dibromobenzene and $\alpha$-phase p-dichlorobenzene seem to exhibit some degree of localization, while the phonon sideband of the phosphorescence of naphthalene in $\gamma$-phase p-dichlorobenzene seems to be entirely delocalized. A correlation is suggested between the degree of localization and the strength of the excitation-phonon coupling as measured by the optical Debye-Waller factor. It is further shown that the strength of coupling of the phonons to the electronic transition is independent of the gas-to-crystal shift of the impurity.
