Abstract: Absolute absorption intensities of the two infrared active librational modes in ClCN and BrCN crystals have been measured. The measurements were made on thin films which were either polycrystalline or glassy depending on deposition conditions. The contributions of intrinsic and induced dipoles to the intensities and band splittings were calculated, and the calculated intensities were in good agreement with the observed.
