 Title: THE NEAR-INFRARED SPECTRUM OF THE TCNQ ION-RADICAL IN AQUEOUS SOLUTION. Creators: Anderson, George R.; Holz, Ronald Issue Date: 1967 Publisher: Ohio State University Abstract: Boyd and $Phillips^{1}$ recently reported on the curious behavior of the 7,7,8,8-tetracyanoquino-dimethan (TCNQ) ion-radical to dimerize in aqueous solution and gave concise spectroscopic evidence for a bona fide thermodynamic equilibrium, $2 TCNQ^{+} (aq)\rightleftarrows TCNQ^{-}_{2} (aq).$ We would like to report further spectroscopic evidence in the near-infrared spectral range that 1) agrees with the previous thermodynamic data and 2) uncovers an additional solution dimer band that is broad and has an absorption maximum at approximately $920 m \mu$. By comparison with the polarized spectra of the K TCNQ crystalline solid, the $920 m \mu$ solution band is thought to be of charge-transfer origin Description: Present address of George R.
