Issue Date: 1967 Publisher: Ohio State University Abstract: Using matrix isolation techniques, the infrared spectrum of xenon dichloride has been obtained. Xenon and chlorine mixtures were passed through a microwave (2450 mc) discharge and condensed on a Csl window maintained at $20^{\circ} K$. An intense and structured band centered at $313 cm^{-1}$ was observed. The band contour can be explained as the superposition of the $\nu_{3}$ vibrations of the twenty-one isotopic species of xenon dichloride with a linear, symmetric structure. Experiments will be described which suggest the existence of a krypton-chlorine compound.
