dc.description.abstract Far infrared spectra of Niobiumpentachloride in the solid state, in several organic solvents, and in matrices of nitrogen ($5^{\circ} K$) and cyclohexane ($77^{\circ} K$) have been measured between 650 and $40 cm^{-1}$. Furthermore the Raman spectrum of single crystal $NbCl_{5}$ has been studied. Assignments for both the monomer and the dimmer molecule vibrational spectra are given, based on observed spectra and normal coordinate analyses. Explanation is presented for apparent coincidences observed in vibrational spectra of the solid. Thermodynamic functions of the monomeric $NbCl_{5}$ are calculated from the vibrational spectra. en_US
