Abstract: The band intensity of the $5.3 \mu$ NO fundamental vibration-rotation band was determined in emission with a 1.5 inch diameter shock tube. The experiments were performed behind an incident shock wave in NO and NO-Ar mixtures over the temperature range of $1000^{\circ} K$ to $5000^{\circ} K$. The density and dilution was adjusted for operation in the weak line region. The infrared emission in the $5.3 \mu$ band was monitored with an InSb infrared detector and narrow band interference filter. The band intensity was obtained from the emission measurements by folding in the computed spectrum at these temperatures. Our value of the band intensity is $124 \pm 22 atm^{-1} cm^{-2}$.
