Title: OBSERVATION OF RYDBERG STATES AND AUTOIONIZATON RESONANCES BY HIGH RESOLUTION ALL-OPTICAL TRIPLE RESONANCE SPECTROSCOPY Creators: Tsai, C. C.; Bahns, J. T.; Stwalley, W. C. Issue Date: 1994 Publisher: Ohio State University Abstract: $Na_{2}$ Rydberg states have been observed for $10\leq n\leq 119$ and $0\leq J\leq 9$ using high resolution all-optical triple resonance spectroscopy and an ultrasensitive ionizatlon $detector^{1}$. Three cw single mode tunable ring dye/Ti:sapphire lasers (linewidth $<0.5$ MHz) were used to reach the singlet ungerade Rydberg states of $Na^{2}$. $$nl ^{1}\Lambda ^{(+)}_{u} (O, J) \stackrel{L_{3}}{\longleftarrow} 3^{1} \Sigma^{+}_{g}(0, J^{\prime}) \stackrel{L_{2}}{\longleftarrow} A^{1} \Sigma^{+}_{u} (I, J^{\prime\prime}) \stackrel{L_{1}}{\longleftarrow} X^{1} \Sigma^{+}_{g} (I, J^{\prime\prime}).$$ The ionization potential (IP) of $Na_{2}$ was estimated by extrapolation to be $39478.75\pm 0.04 cm^{-1}$. This implies that the dissociation energy of the molecular ion $D_{e}(Na_{2}^{+} X^{2}\Sigma_{g})$ is $7973.83\pm 0.12 cm^{-1}$. Four series, $np^{1}\Sigma^{+}_{u}, np^{1}\Pi_{u}, nf^{1}\Sigma^{+}_{u}$ and $nf^{1}\Pi_{u}$, were found and rovibrational interactions, l-uncoupling, stroboscopic effects and Fano autoionization profiles were observed in the spectra.
