Title: ANALYSIS OF THE $2\nu_{3}$ BAND OF $CF_{4}$ ($2540-2600 cm^{-1}$) Creators: Nikitin, A.; Gabard, T.; Champion, J. P.; Pierre, G.; Robiette, A. G.; Pine, A. S. Issue Date: 1994 Abstract: An analysis of the $F_{2}$ and E vibrational components of the $2\nu_{3}$ band of $CF_{4}$ in the infrared between 2540 and $26000 cm^{-1}$ will be presented. A nearly Doppler-limited spectrum was recorded using difference-frequency laser with the $CF_{4}$ sample contained in a white cell cooled to $T=77 K (p=8 Pa, L=8)$ to reduce spectral congestion. An analysis was performed using an isolated band model to sixth order in the tetrahedral formalism. The $2\nu_{3}$ assignments were initiated using predictions from a vibrational extrapolation $method^{1}$ based on constants of the $\nu_{3}$ $band^{2}$ and anharmonic force field $calculations^{3}$ of the $2\nu_{3} \ A_{1}+E+F_{2}$ sublevel centers. Only 22 free parameters were adjusted (the $\nu_{3}$ parameters were held fixed analysis). 1475 transitions were assigned through $J=35$, of which 1005 were fit with a standard deviation of $0.0021 cm^{-1}$ which is considerably largest than the measurement precision estimated to be $=0.0001 cm^{-1}$. Some of the discrepancies can be clearly attributed to interactions with the $\nu_{3}+2\nu_{4}$ and $4\nu_{4}$ bands as expected from the extrapolation of the $\nu_{3/2}\nu_{4}$ band $system^{2}$.
