Abstract

The visible vibrational overtone spectrum of gaseous ferrocene has been observed using laser vibrational overtone $spectroscopy^{1}$. Four peaks were observed in the third overtone region of the spectrum. Comparison of these transition energies to those in the gaseous cyclopentadiene overtone spectrum indicate that they arise from the olefinic C-H stretch. If the cyclopentadienyls were aromatic in ferrocene only one overtone peak would appear. The third overtone spectrum of ruthenocene and cyclopentadienyltitaniumtrichloride have also been observed. The spectra for these compounds are similar to that of ferrocene. The assignments of these spectra will be discussed.
