Abstract: We have used intensity-calibrated, high resolution laser induced fluorescence spectra of molecular iodine to study the variation of the electronic transition moment of the B $0^{+}_u\rightarrow X0^{+}$ transition as a function of Rcentroid. We observe a drop in the value of $\mu_e$ of more than three orders of magnitude, as Rcentroid varies from 2.65 to 4.27 \AA. The radiative lifetimes derived from these results will be discussed.
