Abstract

The rotation-inversion spectrum of $NH_{2}O$ has been re-examined in the frequency range 7.5 - 853 GHz. One hundred forty-three transitions have been fitted to a Watson type Hamiltonian which includes the interaction between the inversion levels. The fit with the interaction term is in excellent agreement with experiment and an order of magnitude better than the fit without the term. The Stark effect has been measured for 16 transitions, including four pairs of ‘a’-type transitions. If the interaction between the inversion states is treated properly, $\mu_{a}$ is found to be essentially the same in both states. The total dipole moment for J = 0 is 1.477(2)D and the relative signs of $\mu_{a}$ and $\mu_{c}$ are determined.
