Abstract: Since presenting a preliminary vibrational assignment for most of the fundamental modes of spiro [2,4] hepta-4,6-diena (I) at this symposium in 1977, refinements have been proposed. In 1977 data was available from infrared gas, liquid and solution spectra and Raman liquid [FIGURE] spectra. Similar data is now available for the deuterated species (II). Matrix isolated spectra for both isotopic species have been measured in argon, krypton and nitrogen matrices. A complete vibrational assignment will be presented and compared with assignments for cyclopropane and cyclopentadiene. A normal coordiante analysis is in progress and will be discussed.
