Abstract: In our laboratory, there has been considerable interest in the structures of molecules which have low-frequency, large-amplitude vibrations. Oftentimes, the Raman spectrum of these gases yields the necessary information to determine the potential function which governs these bending motions. We have investigate the Raman spectrum of gaseous methylisocyanate and have observed a series of Q branches associated with the low-frequency C-N=C bending motion. The potential function describing this vibration will be presented and discussed.
