Title: LABORATORY ASTROPHYSICS WITH THE KITT PEAK FTS: HIGH RESOLUTION SPECTRA OF $NH_{3}$ AND $CH_{4}$ IN THE VISIBLE AND COMPARED PLANETARY SPECTRA Creators: Smith, Wm. Hayden; Brault, J. W.; Jakoubek, R. Issue Date: 1978 Publisher: Ohio State University Abstract: The Fourier Transform Spectrometer constructed by Brault and co-workers at the McMath telescope on Kitt Peak has been used with a long path White cell, on Loan from JPL, to obtain spectra of the visible wavelength transitions of $CH_{4}$ and $NH_{3}$ at unprecedented resolution and signal-to-noise. A comparison with recent Jupiter and Saturn spectra (Smith and Smith, 1978, and Cochran and Smith, 1978) indicates the effects of temperature on the bands. Line strengths derived from the measurements are used to improve estimates of planetary abundances of the two gases. Description: The programs of Wm. Heyden Smith have been supported under National Science Foundation Grant AST 77-06050, and as a Visiting Astronomer, Kitt Peek National Observatory.""
