Abstract: Vibrational analysis, including a normal coordinate calculation, of the spectra of 1,3-disilacyclobutane and its $1,1,3,3-d_{4}$ derivative demonstrate that the molecule is puckered in vapor and liquid phases but is planar in the solid state. This is made clear from data for the low-frequency ring-bending mode and the in-phase $SiH_{2}$ rocking mode which show little interaction for the solid phase, but couple extensively in the other phases. In the gas-phase this interaction is reflected by the observation of several combination and ``hot” band sequences in both infrared and Raman spectra of both molecules.
