Title: QUANTITATIVE EVALUATION OF ELECTRICAL AND MECHANICAL ANHARMONICITY IN LiF Creators: Soriaga, M. P.; Andermann, G. Issue Date: 1977 Abstract: Laser radiation damage of transparent” optical windows has renewed interest in the controversial problem of mechanical anharmonicity (MA) vs. electrical anharmonicity (EM) in the lattice vibrations of such substances as LiF. Sum rules, such as the one proposed by Hellwarth and Mangir $(HM),^{1}$ provide one way of approaching the MA vs. EA problem. Using our experimental data the original application of the HM method concludes that MA is the dominant mechanism in the multiphonon region at all temperatures. A revised sum rule, as proposed by our group, indicates that EA contribution is significant and tends to dominate as T goes to absolute zero and as P is increased.
