The Rare Books and Manuscripts Library holds rare and unique volumes and primary source material that support the teaching and research strengths of the University’s academic program, particularly in the arts and humanities and covering medieval to contemporary studies. The Library engages closely with faculty and other scholars to promote the use of distinctive materials in the classroom, for intensive research and to inspire new knowledge and discovery. Collection strengths include: Medieval and Renaissance manuscripts and early printed books; Cervantes; English 17th-century drama; German and English Reformation; history of astronomy; Irish literature (particularly Samuel Beckett); trade catalogs; elocution, rhetoric and oratory; children’s science; cookbooks; Brazilian medicine; gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender; history of computer graphic arts; avant garde (particularly visual poetry); UFO studies; Scientology.
